Sanctuary Community Standards
How we protect empathy, kindness, and psychological safety across 450+ disease rooms.
1. Lead with Radical Empathy
Every peer in our rooms is navigating personal pain, fatigue, anxiety, or grief. Respond with warmth, patience, and non-judgment. What works for your body might not work for another; celebrate different journeys.
2. Share Lived Experience, Not Prescriptions
Use “I” statements rather than commands. Say: “When I felt nauseous, ginger tea helped me,” rather than: “You must stop your medicine and drink ginger.” Never advise someone to alter dosages prescribed by their doctors.
3. Respect Ephemeral DM Boundaries
Never pressure peers to move conversations to unverified external apps (such as WhatsApp, Telegram, or personal social media). Respect someone's decision if they decline a 1-on-1 Message Request.
4. Zero Tolerance for Toxic Positivity or Gaslighting
Telling peers to “just smile” or claiming that severe chronic illnesses are “just in your head” is strictly forbidden. We acknowledge hard days and validate real suffering.
5. Reporting & Peer Moderation
If you witness behavior that violates these standards, tap the report flag on any message. Our moderation queue acts swiftly to keep the sanctuary safe.
